It was another dog trial weekend, so I was bachelor chow once again. I got a lot of housework done. I also watched some good and bad anime:
I recall reading LeGuin's Earthsea books, and they were full of creativity, imagination and fantasy. You would think when some of the legends in Anime got together (Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli) to create Tales From Earthsea it would be an easy home run? Well... it wasn't. It was duller than toasted wonderbread. It was lifeless and utterly disappointing. Tropes and cliches. Nothing at all worthy of the source material. Some of the animation was good it was often just bland and passable. It felt like a long run too, I nearly fell asleep. Ugh! π ββ
I was a bit surprised by how much I enjoyed Netflix's Exception. I don't generally care for the perfect-looking Adobe Illustrator digital animation style, but the story and characters really hooked me in. It was a little sci-fi, a little murder mystery, a little corporate agenda, a little crazy PETA and toss in an awkward mutated humanoid/monster. Fun times. It kept me pretty engaged. Lewis FTW. It was broken into really small chunks too so it seemed to fly by. Would go to planet X-10(?) again. βββΒΎ
Updating NVIDIA drivers on Linux has always been a 'hold your breath and pray' for X11 to come back after a reboot...I updated from v470 to v510. So far it is looking good. I'm going to test some Steam games before I get excited.
Sucked more time into the futility of trying to get Ascension to run in Linux. Tried straight install (based on their instructions), Lutris, Bottles. All fail. They all install and get past the log on screen, but ALL die after realm selection when it loads the characters. I tried so many configurations, always dies at the same place. Ugh. Error: 0130:err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 7BC62360 "dlls/ntdll/loader.c: loader_section" wait timed out in thread 0130, blocked by 0024, retrying (60 sec) It repeats a few times then stops responding. Fun. I could play it in Windows but I really don't want to.
Alaloth - Champions of The Four Kingdoms on sale for 60% off - ugh, well, steam refund.
Also powered through a fair bit of Season 3 of Star Trek: Enterprise. The whole Xindi storyline was pretty cool. Considering how long other Star Trek franchises ran, I'm surprised this version only had four seasons... the worst intro song by a galaxy however.
