New Years, Cottage, Family, X390 Yoga Thinkpad, Linux, Linux Mint, World Juniors, Rack-O, Mickey Mouse
After a long dreary week that was suppose to be full of people... we finally got out of the house and up to the SiL's cottage. We spent New Year's Eve in great company. It was an evening full of drinks and laughs. We watched the classic film There is something about Mary. It is mostly shock humour. *shrug* I also suffered through the end of Dick Clark's countdown (why is it still called that?) with LL Cool J and a bunch of very forgettable artists. When disco is the highlight of the night... Eeee... It was a fairly early night after the clock ticked past midnight.
New Year's Day is Ahh-Nee-tah's birthday. We had a nice walk with the dogs at Six Mile Lake PP which is just up the road. The dogs enjoyed zigzagging across the roads and fighting for the only precious stick in the park. *cough* It is pretty hilly in there. In evening we exchanged prezzies, watched some of the first WPHL game (of course Toronto lost) and had some cake. We also played Racko! It was my first time Rackoing. It was a curious, easy to play game. I was close to Rack-o! twice and got Rack-o in the last game we played. A quick to learn, fun game to pass the time.
Hmm... Idunno what was going on with my X390 Yoga Thinkpad... The trackpad was painfully sluggish to completely unresponsive at times making the OS frustrating and often unusable. I was running POP-OS. It was great on other systems but, this one it ran really poorly on. It could just be a driver or something similar but a few google searches turned up very little so.. Meh. So, DISTRO HOP! I tried Debian and just didn't like any of the Desktop Environments (and some where still sluggish)...So, back to the default Linux Mint on it. So far, it seems really good and there are built in settings for trackpad management. Being able to two finger right click is also a blesses. In Mint we trust!
I got the feeling during the Sweden game that Canada was going to be offensively challenged against the better teams in the tournament. They made it to the quarter finals against Czechia. The Czechs got out to an early lead then Canada slowly put some pressure on and tied it. They appeared to have the momentum going into the third. But wow, the third...Canada just could not score. They pressured the Czechs for a good part of the third but the chances were often poor quality. The Canadians really didn't get many Grade A scoring chances. Maybe this played into the Czechs plan...Just hang around and wait for a break and wow, did they ever get one. With under 30s left in the game a point shot deflected off a Canadian stick into the net. It was really one of the only real chances the Czechs had all period and it was a dagger. There wasn't enough time left to do anything. It was a pretty crushing loss but that is hockey. The Canadians had a PP and over 20m to get a goal and couldn't. So they are out. *shrug* The Sweds also got some very generous OT calls to win against the Swiss and move on. The US won handily and the Fins scraped by Slovakia.
Ha! The copyright has expired on the original 1928 Mickey Mouse cartoon short film Steamboat Willie. Oh gawd, so you'll be seeing all sorts of Mickey mess on various media platforms...
