Muskoka, Vacation, Best in Show

A solid cake.
A solid cake.

We can't seem to get enough of Muskoka. We went back up for a long weekend to celebrate bdot's birthday with her sister and family. On the drive up bdot finally took me for fries in Barrie at The Fry's the Limit. (It was in Bolton years back) I ordered poutine and it was good but... I think I'm over poutine. It is so heavy and by the time yuo reach the bottom the fries are a soggy mess. While I do love the squeaky cheese... I think I'm going to stick to a basic crispy fry for now on. Hmmpt! We also picked up more delicious corn and some fudge!

The next day, Bdot and her sister had an outing to Barrie for Yarnfest. I stayed with Bill and did yard work in the baking Sun. We were trying to clear a bunch of dead fall on the property. Nothing like carting wood in 30C heat to a fire. In the evening some of the men drove down to Innisfil to watch drag racing. This isn't something I would typically go to. I'm not really a big car guy. I'm even less of a watch car go around in circles car guy... but I thought it might be interesting. It certainly attracts a different demographic. Lots of camo and denim. I expect a ton to F Trudeau stickers on F-150s too...*shrug* Anyway... I didn't like the noise and smell so much but the event process and procedure was pretty interesting. There is quite a lot of formality (likely for safety) in how races are conducted. How things are quickly slowed down under a caution flag, how the car reform before they continue, all the crazy flag gestures by the flagman.

The races themselves were curious. There was always maybe three cars out of eight or so really in the race. Everyone else just seemed like filler. There was also always a straggler that was lapped or nearly lapped by the lead car. I thought the slow poke car was creating a dangerous situation. There wasn't any real accidents, so that was good. What Bill really wanted to see wasn't the professional races but the amateur guys and gals with their own cars race each other. Now this sounded interesting. It was apparent to me the care the pros were taking on corners and when beside each other. But wow...I was expecting fireworks with bravado filled idiots with their souped up cars who think tht they are the best drivers in the world. What could go wrong?! But alas, it wasn't meant to be. For some unknown reason this part of the evening's entertainment was dropped. *Sad Horn* I think I would actually go see dudes destroy their cars. The evening wasn't what I expected and I enjoyed it once my hearing returned. It was also the only way to see my nephew, Medium R, who came up to see the races. It wasn't the best venue for conversation however. ha!

And they're off!
And they're off

Any weekend at the cottage means glorious eating and this weekend was no exception. Bill was inspired by a cooking show to make Tenderloin burgers with a pretzel crusted coating. They were pretty amazing. I don't think Bill used tenderloin so it was closer to a think pork chop. But wow...the deep fried coating was incredible. The deep frying continued as we made apple fritters for breakfast. Yum! In the evening we relaxed and watched an older film Best In Show. Bill is on a bit of a Eugene Levy kick inspired by his new travel show. I dunno know... It was simply not a film for me... I didn't like anything about it and left after about 45m. No point in rating it. They seemed to enjoy it. *shrug*

mmm donuts...
mmm donuts...

It continued to be hot most of the weekend. The only thing you could really do is cool off in the bay. It was pretty delightful on a floaty with a slight breeze. But this ghastly white fool didn't respect the Sun enough... I got a mild burn on my chest. I never seem to learn. It sure didn't seem like I was out there very long. Sigh. The dogs were mostly good this weekend. The two older dogs continue to be oil and water however. *shrug*

Lilypads sure enjoy the Sun

Happy ๐ŸŽ‚Birthday๐Ÿ™‚ bdot. She spent most of her birthday out with a friend in Orangeville. She brought home very spicy Thai.
