I don't understand how the U.S. can continue to support Israel and its government's barbaric, war crimes. Lobbyists? Money? Sure isn't a winning policy.
There was another ceasefire vote at the UN today. The vote in the 193-member world body was 153 in favor, (80% in favour) 10 against and 23 abstentions. The United States and Israel were joined in opposing the resolution by eight countries โ Austria, Czechia, Guatemala, Liberia, Micronesia, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay. Even Canada, has finally flipped to opposing the continued punishing of the Palestinian people.
"In tougher language than usual, though, President Joe Biden warned before the vote that Israel was losing international support because of its โindiscriminate bombingโ of Gaza.
"The resolution expresses โgrave concern over the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and the suffering of the Palestinian civilian population,โ and it says Palestinians and Israelis must be protected in accordance with international humanitarian law.
"It also demands that all parties comply with international humanitarian law, โnotably with regard to the protection of civilians,โ and calls for โthe immediate and unconditional release of all hostages, as well as ensuring humanitarian access.โ -Source
This article was also interesting: "No single nation should have the right to obstruct the will of the overwhelming majority and to deny a people, in this case Palestinians, the opportunity of peace. Proposals for peace and humanitarian access should be beyond geo-political alliances and perceived national interest: Humanity First; Peace, Freedom and Social Justice First; Compassion First. These, if humanity is to survive at all, need to become the slogans of the age."
"This latest US action will cost the lives of more Palestinians, potentially thousands more. And whilst the US Administration may be increasingly tetchy with Israel for killing quite so many civilians, it doesnโt care enough to act; to support a ceasefire, to stop supplying arms and to withdraw diplomatic cover from Israel. The hypocrisy and double standards or these people know no limits."
Something positive. Olivia Rodrigo is quite a talent. She was on NPR. Enjoy.
