Regrettably I slept in a little later than I wanted to on Sunday. This put us behind leaving for VFest. In spite of being a little late I only missed two artists that I was hoping to catch, Souljazz Orchestra and Tokyo Police Club. Sigh. Oh well. There was the usual wait to do everything once you arrived on the island. Food was a wait, using the john was a wait, crossing a bridge was a wait… mind you, it did seem busier than last year.
I saw two bands that I wasn’t familiar with Blonde Redhead and The Editors. I loved the two songs I caught from Blonde Redhead. They seemed very ‘4AD’ to me… with the songs 23 and SW reminding me a lot of Lush. I’m going to have to check out Blonde Redhead’s full discography. The other new band I caught was the Editors. I only heard about two songs which I haven’t identified yet. They were rocking though. A British band… the lead singer had an interesting voice. I’m going to check them out as well. Over on the main stage the headliners were pretty impressive. I was impressed with Metric. Metric’s lead singer, Emily Haines was clearly enjoying herself onstage, jumping around and rockin’ with the music. Next was the Killers who brought everyone to their feet. The Killers put on a great show and played all their recognizable singles. Before the Smashing Pumpkins took the stage we waited in line at Ras Iville’s One Love Corn Soup & Seasoned Corn stand and ended up enjoyed an amazing bowl of soup. We heard a few Pumpkins songs and decided to leave early… I’m not a huge fan, I was just curious to hear their sound live. They did sound pretty good. I was happy to hear that VFest should be returning next year. I thought both days were pretty decent as far as artists… I would have liked to see Bjork and Interpol… I think next year if the days are also equally balanced (which I’m sure it will be) then I’d prefer to hit the Saturday show instead of Sunday. Late Sunday nights are brutal… especially with how late Monday’s at work have been…. It was a great night out with B..
