The Last Samurai

I enjoyed The Last Samurai. Admittedly… I’m not a huge Tom Cruise fan… and I found him good, but not great in this role as a man searching for his place in life. (I found Ken Watanabe to have much more presence on the screen than Cruise) I liked the historical side to the story and story itself. The way of the Samurai was depicted in an interesting manner… as both an honourable and dying breed of warrior. I kept thinking of Klingons for some reason. <Klingon voice> You fight with NO HONOUR! </Klingon voice> The battle scenes were pretty decent as well. It was a fairly long movie, in spite of that… there were many possible plot cul-de-sacs that weren’t broadened, more historical, more romantic, more cultural. I enjoyed it, but can’t say it was amazing, stunning or really brought anything new… It was, however, an enjoyable Drama, and Cruise in a more tolerable role (for me). I spin it at ⭐⭐⭐½

Bdot found the depiction of the ‘extermination of the Samurai’ saddening, but also enjoyed it. She rated it ⭐⭐⭐¾

Happy Golden Birthday

First off. Just wanted to wish my sister a happy birthday… Isn’t aging grand? We are in the process of acquiring her present… something is coming… B. and I were over at my sister’s place last night… Had a crazy sweet chili and chicken pizza from Pizza Pizza (which was insanely yummy) and watched The Last Samurai…

The Canadian Men’s team won GOLD! in a 5-3 win over Sweden today! 😀 😀 😀 Congrats! (I wasn’t sure the boys would pull it off… but the boys played a great 2nd half of the game showing both great offense and defense to earn an impressive win for Canada today!)
