sad computer. sad service.

Gah. What a day What a day… Spent most of today buzzing around Toronto. B. had many spots and I wanted to try and see what was wrong with my AMD Box. What you ask? -smirk- Well. Nothing. Apparently ~~~~ there have been some changes in motherboards and AGP slots since the last time I installed a Video card. Apparently ~~~~ now there is a lock on the end of the AGP slot to lock 1x 4x and 8x cards down… something that was absent from mobos I’ve previously worked with. And wait.. there is more… In addition, I’m also used to the mobo beeping if something is incorrectly installed… such as any card, ram or CPU. No beeping. So… What I did was install the video card without ‘locking’ it down… it halted the system completely! No beeping no love, no notice. GAHHHH. At least I learnt something grasshopper. I also learnt it is worth it to spend a few extra dollars and get to get good customer service. Esp. if you are accustomed to it. The guys I dealt with at Etc. seemed rather indifferent, and slightly annoyed to be assisting me… I asked a few questions and none were answered. When he was done… he barely said anything, and just walked away… (not to mentioned that I DID hear him talk in another language to his co-workers in the back which was followed by laughing right after he went back there… which is fine it was a simple mistake, but… see if you get my business again..)

Many hours later, a nasty drive home in rain, a battle with software and OSes and I’m pretty beat. I’m (gawd only knows why) going to try XP once more. It is better for gaming, and I’m only running XP for gaming and a few apps so… DIG IT.
