Apparently the US ๐บ๐ธ v. Panama ๐ต๐ฆ Nations League semi final was dull. But wow, a late goal by Panana puts them in the final! So the opportunity for a Canada/Panama final was there. Unfortunately Canada was not up to the task...
Canada ๐จ๐ฆ v. Mexico ๐ฒ๐ฝ is the other semi. Canada conceded one early. "it's the worst possible start for Canada" said the commentator. They had a lot of possession in the rest of the half. But no real chances. Ho-hum. The big CONCACAF event of the night was a horrible missed call, WITH NO VAR REVIEW?!!... It would have given Canada a penalty kick. But CONCACAF is CONCACAF EVERY TIME. The 2nd Half. Canada continued to press - getting some middling shots but still no grade A chances. Mexico score on a dreadfully defended spot kick and Canada needs 2 with 15m. Possession means nothing if you do nothing with it. Mexico took advantage of their chances, Canada didn't. I think they outplayed Mexico and lost. Sighhhhh...Canada also out of sync offensively. Pretty disappointing. Incredible opportunity wasted. Go Panama. Mexico was solid defensively however, that has to be said.
Canada plays the US Sunday for 3rd. Meh.
Ball hockey final is tonight!

Perhaps it was a odd omen for tonight's game. I forget my Gatorade and had to rush home to get it. I've never forgot it in the past. Hmmpt. Anyway... it was a tough game tonight. They ran at us all night long. We wondered how they were still running in the final period. The score was close all night. We were behind. We were ahead. But it was tied with under 2m left... then they got the ball to out net and somehow banging away at it went ahead, really late. There wasn't much time to do anything. And defending in this situation is easier than attacking. So we lost. Our streak of finals comes to an end by one late goal. There were lots of other bad goals too.. blame enough for everyone. Defensive out of position, forwards not covering points, goalie not finding a loose ball in time... all little things but any one of them could have altered the result. The red team deserved the win for sure. They worked tonight. They got in passing lanes, took away time and space ALL night...Our passing game never got started. They were impressive and hungry to win. So many other teams (or individuals) won't bitch now about our team (outside of a few blow outs most of our games have been close)... seeing we are no longer the champs. I had an okay night. A goal and a few assists but I fatigued really quickly tonight. Not sure why. Dinner wasn't sitting well in my stomach either. There will be no rest for the wicked...the season starts right back up next Friday. I'll probably be missing that night due to a funeral out of town. Unless I go really early but I don't care to do that. We'll see.

Happy Birthday Kirk. You are still missed buddy. ๐

I guess US didn't much care for 3rd in the Nation's League Cup. They looked uninspired, uncreative and flat. Which is fine... It allow Canada to win their second match in a row against them and finish 3rd in the tournament. Not what they wanted, but a silver lining beating the Americans. Jesse got red carded for something he said to the ref. Couldn't find a post game interview. *snort*
Panama played Mexico tight and it was tied late. I don't know what the Panamanian d-man was thinking...maybe he had money on Mexico, but wow, sticking his arm out, unnecessarily cost him a penalty and the match...really one of dumbest plays I've ever seen considering the time of the game... it was minutes from OT. Quite a head scratcher. Fsck Mexico and their homophobic fans.
