WOWโฆ What a great show!
I just got in from seeing the Pixies (with Datsuns and Marble Index). Arrow Hall is pretty massive. It is like a big airplane hanger. I didnโt know what to expect for sound in there, but it was fine. I missed the openers but caught all of the Datsuns set. They were pretty impressive. Their guitarist often stealing the show. A very solid band โfer sure. Youโd have thought pot was legal with the amount of it in the air. Phew. hehe.
Clearly every one there was there to see the Pixies. It is kind of odd. Iโve been going to concerts for well over a decade, and tonight was the first time I knew all the songs. The band ripped through many of their popular songs and some other more surprising selections. Kim did a solo of the Elevator song (It's called something like thatโฆ) it was curious. โIn heaven, everything is fine.โ Joey, sporting a bald head rocked out quite often with an extended solo/instrumental with a bunch of effects. It was pretty neat. Some of the songs they played included: Mr.Grieves, Debaser, U-Mass, Something Against You, Broken Face, Gigantic, Subbacultcha, The Holiday Song, Gouge Away, Velouria, Is She Weird (sadly they didnโt play Caribou), the encore was Where Is my Mind? It was pretty dreamy, I never thought I would ever see the Pixies. Iโm glad they did this tour. I was surprised at how little they interacted with the crowd. Just track after track. Which is great, but I was a little surprised. They did seem to be getting along on-stage even joking a bit at the end.
Frank is a big boy. He was wearing dark shades and can still scream and bring the rock. I was impressed with David on drums. He was really impressive live, Iโve always thought he was turned down in many pixies mixes but tonight his presence was quite apparent. I ordered the Live disc from tonightโs show. So when that comes Iโll have a bonus little treat. Thanks to B. for joining me, you were a trooper.
