Being a sports fan is about supporting a team through good and bad. The Sabres have been burdened with a massive number of injuries in the past month. The Buffalo Amerks some people are calling them (as the Sabres are filling out their roster with call ups from the farm team the Rochester Americans of the AHL). So amidst these conditions where some teams would fall back on the excuse of fielding such a team the Sabres persevere. Last night against the Sens was arguably one of the best games Iโve seen the Sabres play. Not because of the plays or goalsโฆ but because of how they came together to protect each other and how proud I felt to support such a team. The Sens and Sabres have developed quite a rivalry and it was exemplified last night. Iโm sure there will be much discussion about Neilโs hit on Drury; regardless what the NHL decides to do (if anything). My take on it is that it was a dirty hit on player that was clearly looking down. Neil drove his body into Drury with intent to injury. It is common knowledge that Neil is a cheap shot agitator in the league. That is his role. But does his role injuring star players on the opposing team? The Sabres had every right to go after Heatley and Spezza. You want to take cheap shots at our players damn right there will be a price to pay! I expect more of the same on Saturday as the teams meet again in Ottawa. I hope that Drury did not sustain a concussion; it certainly looked nasty. Neil better keep his head up Saturday.
