The vote on Gay Rights in Canada will happen soon in Parliament. It made me think about Democracy and Human Rights and how different they seem to be implemented throughout the world. Even between Canada and the U.S. with this issue there are major differences. In Canada it appears that we will make same sex laws legal, in the U.S. Bush is trying to (or has) changed the constitution to make same sex illegal. Ultimately I believe in the rights of the individual to choose in any situation. I donโt think any government, religion or authority should be able to dictate (or limit) the choices that people can make within a democratic society. How does gay rights affect anyone other than the couples involved that want to get married. Why do some people think that they should be able to restrict a lifestyle, that to homosexuals is so fundamentally to who they are? It will be curious to see how this unfolds in Canada, and maybe more so in the U.S.
How Gay is that?
