Ugh...It is a disturbing how reliant we've become on apps. I typically use Messenger daily to talk to friends and bdot. I'm had some minor issues with it in the past but nothing that interrupted the core functionality. Well, until today. I'm getting this random pop-up and it appears that I'm not receiving some messages. It only appears to be impacting my main system. After googling it is not OS specific... It seems a ton of people are getting it and there is no solution and no recourse from Meta. ๐
Hmm, I get the hand me down phones. I've been using my Sister's cast off for a while but the battery (full charge) is now only 69% percent battery life sooo I've switched to bdot's old phone (it has over 80%)... When I was taking the SIM card out the old phone case practically disintegrated. Hmppt. Now installing 45 apps. *SMH* Yes, I know you can transfer but I wanted to start it fresh and get rid of the bloat.
CANMNT's big COPA game is tonight. No one is picking them (other than Drake - he bet 300k on Canada apparently ๐ฎ) to win tonight. Rightfully so, they are going against the World ranked #1 Argentina ๐ฆ๐ท. But they held them to two goal in their first meeting, have a new tender and have gained a lot of experience in the past three COPA games. It is unlikely of course but, if they can get a draw and take things to PK, well... PK is a random, anything can happen thing. ๐จ๐ฆ Go Canada! ๐จ๐ฆ Take down the giant!
After watching a interesting switched to Linux video... I decided to give Fedora 40 another shot... We shall see, still hate the UI but maybe it can be tweaked. HAHA. It is Gnome I HATE. Worst, most unintuitive UI ever made. So tried to get rid of it and borked the whole system (I was following verified steps!!?) - fsck Gnome! Not again. Trying one more time with ISO with KDE specifically... since switching it is apparently not possible. Fedora with KDE (so far) seems okay. It is fully on Wayland! Hmpt. So no more X11... that in itself is worth giving an extended test drive too...I've installed Steam, I'll check out how some games perform in the future.
Crushed by the Giant
Canada was always a long shot in today's semi against the FIFA#1 ranked Argentina ๐ฆ๐ท. They are an incredible team. I heard a stat that they have only lost two of their last 60 or so games. Holy crap. So Canada who has scored two goals in their last five games....well, it is asking a lot to get a result. Franking, it is remarkable that Canada is even in the COPA semi. Anyway... Canada had a decent first half. I thought they had good pace and solid positioning. They generated some chances but as always needed more quality in the final third. I think this is my broken record mantra for this team. NO FINISH!. Canada had trouble dealing with Argentina's quality. It led to the first goal against. One quick pass, one missed tackle and boom, goal against. So we were down 1-0 at half. I'll take that in a COPA Semi vs. the FIFA #1 every day.
The second half I was hoping for Canada come out and really give 'er. But Argentina was patient and controlled and their skill really showed. ARG got a corner... Canada couldn't clear, looked sloppy and again, boom, it was in the net. You can't be sloppy against the best or you lose. I was hoping Canada could at least break the ARG clean sheet but in spite of some quality late chances... you guessed it... NO FINISH!. So they lost 2-0, which is respectable against (what some are calling) one of the best soccer teams ever. Period. I've read a lot of social media whining about the Refs. He wasn't that bad compared to the other games. I don't think he impacted the game as much. Argentina was better and won. *shrug*
It was a packed stadium with over 80k! Canada ultimately was the last CONCACAF team standing...and could still get on the podium if they can with the bronze medal game. The team showed a lot of promise. I'm looking forward to seeing how the new coach continues to evolve this team. If they continue to play like this, they should be able to be the kings of CONCACAF again.
Bah. Decided to blow Fedora away. Everything is different. I'm used to apt and certain apps etc. and many of them are not there. Some thing simply don't work easily. Red flag. I'm going for 2h to install a freaking app. That is poor user experience. It seems stable but I see no reason to learn another ecosystem. I like Ubuntu based so I'm sticking with it. Installing POP! And, yes, I know, it is using Gnome but they have it tweaked to be tolerable.
The finals are decided. Spain ๐ช๐ธ v. England ๐ฌ๐ง for Euro and Colombia ๐จ๐ด v. Argentina ๐ฆ๐ท in COPA. Canada ๐จ๐ฆ will play Uruguay ๐บ๐พ for bronze or 3rd or whatever.
