Canada's next PM
Canada's next PM

So Carney won the Liberal leadership race yesterday. He become the temporary Prime Minister when Trudeau steps down. Trudeau made his final speech as PM... It was looking forward to the challenges Canada will face in the future. He was certainly emotional. I think the past few months raised him profile and legacy a bit... It was good to see him go out on a high. I think a lot of the negative rhetoric was generated and not real... Chrรฉtien also had a great speech - he went after Mango pretty hard. He is still a great speaker at... 91!

Semi final game
Semi final game

The ball hockey semi final games were last Friday. As expected, the 2/3 game was really good. It was back and forth. Red came out on top and moves on to the final. Against... us! Yes, we also won our semi game. It was a bit of an odd one. Yellow was short on players so it was 3 on 3. The only game we lost was 3 on 3. So it wasn't an easy night. Yellow pushed us all night but found a way to get the W. It was a good effort by everyone. It was great to see one of our players back with a smile after a very difficult week with the passing of her parents. I had a good night. A few goals, none of which were pretty, but they all count the same. The final is in two weeks.

We finished a very mediocre series Missing You. The Series was certainly at B level quality. A lot of ugh... The final episode wasn't bad but it felt like a long time to get to it. It lacked flow and some of the subplots were simply silly or not fleshed out enough for the viewer to care. It was kinda meh. โญโญยพ

I've used computers and been a big tech enthusiast for most of my life. Like most people, I started with Windows but started dabbling with Linux as well. What I always loved about Linux was the level of customization... You can change pretty anything, and sure, if you don't know what you are doing, you can break things. I've broke a lot of systems. I've stuck to the standard desktop environments (DE). Gnome, KDE, Cinnamon, MATE, XFCE... I've tried them all. I like KDE Plasma and POP's version of Gnome the best. But I kept hearing about Hyprland. I do love to try new tech... but this wasn't a DE... it's a Window Manager (WM). A Window Manager is much less robust that a DE. There is no start menu. No app panel. The first boot of it was really a trip. There is literally a blank screen. Just a void. I didn't even get a welcome screen typical of post installation of a DE. So I was like...WTF. So yes... I read the manual (wiki)... It seemed the smart thing to do would be to install someone else's great setup of Hyprland and go from there. Coz as is... I wasn't going to sink THAT much time to figure Hyprland out. And wow, what a great decision this was. I ultimately settled on JaKooLit's setup... I think it is remarkable! And slowly I started to understand the differences between a DE and a WM. It is so different. It is almost a rethinking of how to use a computer... The apps become central based upon whatever you want to do. You can bind all sorts of functionality to keys - opening apps, closing apps, moving apps to different virtual desktops... It is a pretty cool idea. And wow... does it ever run smoothly and use very little CPU. With Firefox, VSCode and a few other apps up on an OLD laptop...CPU is only at 9%! So I think I'm going to try and preserver with Hyprland. ๐Ÿ‘ It all started trying some weird Arch base distro called CachyOS
