Sigh... well... I saw a reddit post that showed how you could force -f an upgrade for POP 22 to POP 24...They made it seem straight-forward and safe. Well. That was a mistake. It borked all kinds of shit on my main system and trying to get my POP OS back to fully functional proved to be a nightmare. So... regrettably, I'm back to hopping. POP OS does not supported hibernate, which is ridiculous. I tried manually setting it up and it did hibernate but my screens didn't come back so... f that. Done with POP for now. Maybe I'll revisit once Cosmic is 1.0. I tried Cosmic Alpha from USB and it doesn't even boot with a functional menu - all sort of things were broken so - that is completely uninspiring... So I did some reading. I'm going to try Bazzite. (oh jez, it is based on Fedora...Hmmm!) Steam and hibernation need to work. Or gawd forbid back to Mint.
I choose KDE for my desktop environment. I do like KDE. So far no issues... it still doesn't appear to support hibernate. But it sleeps so... Ugh. I'm going to try and live with it for a while. It is running Wayland. The system does seem snappy and the video rendering is excellent.
A few weeks back my Steam drive failed... I just got a replacement this weekend. So far so good... Went with a Seagate Ironwolf.
It was a busy weekend. A friend's Mom's funeral was yesterday. I was debating about leaving early Saturday morning but there was potent for a serious ice storm...(which turned out to be nothing) So I decided to drive down earlier (Friday afternoon) to my Mother's. That meant missing a night of hockey. It was just 'community' game night so...I was okay with that. I had a nice long visit with my Mom. I rarely get the chance so. We talked mostly about family and politics. She made a special Skor dessert for me. That was yummy. It was good to spend some time with her. Unfortunately, her cat sheds A LOT and I'm pretty allergic to him (even though he loves me). So that is always a challenge.

The funeral was first thing in the morning in downtown St.Catharines. My friend Pat was happy to see me and all of the others in our immediate group of friends. (ha. some of his relatives even mistook me for Pat! We often get 'you guys all look alike') I didn't intend on staying for the service - but that is when most of my other friends arrived. I also wanted to spend some time with them... So ended up staying the entire morning and into the post-mass reception. It was a opportunity to met new girlfriends and have a few laughs. We are always laughing. Maybe it is how we cope with hard times. It was good to see everyone. My buddy Dean is getting re-married May 24. MikeMike's new girlfriend was outgoing and personable. They seemed good together. I think we brought a bit of respite for Pat on a difficult day.

Before leaving for home I stopped to pick up a pre-order (pre-order is definitely the way to go) of Beechwood donuts.

We watched a curious animated film called Flow tonight. (And got Cup n' Char pizza again. SO GOOD) It was a curious film. It follows a cat in an odd post-human world. The cat runs into other animals and befriends a few as they try and survive in this changing world. The animation is excellent. There are no humans, so there is no dialogue but wow... the studio sure captured a lot of emotion, character and personality with the animals and animation. I think that was the highlight of the film for me. I was a little less impressed by the odd settings and redundant landscapes visited by the cat and friends. The ending was just...flat. But an incredible journey nevertheless, and it showcased some fantastic animation. Certainly some strong themes about choices and consequences, friendship, loyalty, life and death. โญโญโญโญ It did make me hug my cat.

Yup. Sleep works as expected... so I guess I'll be on Bazzite for a while.
Oh yeah... and this from a Carney speech gave me a chill: The old relationship we had with the United States, based on deepening integration of our economies and tight security and military cooperations, is over
Polling right now for the federal election is crazy. Liberals presently have a 80% chance of a majority! Jez. Official party status is 12 seats. NDP and Green are projected below that.
