Ubuntu โ€“ Almost ready for prime time

Ubuntu.

Ubuntu.

Iโ€™ve been playing with various linux distros for years. The current release of Ubuntu (8.04) is quite impressive. The Gnome based interface is clean and simple to useโ€ฆ After seeing KDE 4.1 on Fedora โ€“ Iโ€™ve given up on KDE. KDE 4.1 is a step backwards in usability and in general looks disorganized. I did have some installation issues however. My Hard Drive was not Primary Master so when I rebooted GRUB hungโ€ฆ It couldnโ€™t find the drive. (Isnโ€™t that what GRUB does?) Anyway after finally getting that running the rest was smooth. It updated a bunch of stuff then I was using the current Firefox 3 with Flash installedโ€ฆall painlessly. The one issue I do have occurs during suspend mode. When I try to return to the OS it appears to boot up but the screen remains a blinking cursor. Ho-Hum. Otherwise Ubuntu has been a joy to use. I connected a FAT32 USB drive to it and it detected it and allowed me access to the files rather seamlessly.

My cough is lingering. It is pretty bad at night. I get a โ€˜scratchโ€™ in my throat and it triggers a nasty coughing assault. If this persists much longer Iโ€™m going to see my doctor.
