I took the day off since I worked all weekend (I hope to take Friday off as wellโ€ฆ). It wasnโ€™t a relaxing day off. I did a ton of laundry and cleaned the basement most of the day. After the cleaning I finally got to a barber, which was looooong overdue.

After a year of waiting I watched the Sabres in pre-season action tonight. It became apparent quickly that the game of hockey that will develop this year is going to be different than what NHL hockey before. There were a lot of odd penalties and some curious rules. My least favourite addition is the *automatic* penalty for shooting a puck over the glass while leaving the defensive zone. Seems pretty weak. The shootout will be fun and could end up becoming very important for a few extra points next April. Strangeโ€ฆ I thought the main point of all the changes was to improve game flowโ€ฆ now there seems to be many more interruptions with minor (read: trivial) penalties. The game was good. Sabres capitalized on a lot of powerplays. Anytime the Sabres can beat the Leafs however, it is still a great night for hockey.
