The local trail along the Humber River

The local trail along the Humber River

We have gotten a lot of snow in the past few days. It let to the canceling of hockey and a few co-workers staying home. I didn’t get such luxury. I live close to major, well-cleared highways, so I can’t claim to be ‘trapped on rural backroads’ Hmpt. My days at work continue to be busy. Every day. I’m hoping the IT side will plateau soon as we are heading into the ‘busy’ season otherwise things could become unbearable. I’m already wondering if I’m going to get a Summer holiday.

The Sabres predictably fumbled whatever glimmer of hope they had for post season with two late game losses in a row. They are so frustrating. TFC also gave up a win, giving up a goal late in their season opener. It hasn’t been a good weekend for my teams. Ha, and now the Spurs just gave up a goal late and are behind. Good grief… So I wanted a small laptop for work. My workspace is painfully cramped – but there is a small bit of space I can have a laptop. Originally I was scoping out a Pine Book Pro. But some buyers posting photos of cracked bodies really turned me off. It has only been weeks and some are showing weakness in various I/O slots. So that is disappointing. I think I’ll look back to see what they do next gen. It is a great idea but they clearly need time to improve quality/design. So that left me wondering… for similar money could I get a better Windows laptop? New? No. Used? Yes. So I started looking at options on ebay. Well… I sure lucked out. With a ‘last second snipe‘ © I scored an incredible machine. An Asus Zenbook UX430U-RH31-CB. It is a brilliant device. I still can’t believe what I paid for it – it looks like mint condition and I paid well better than half price for it. It is light, very portable, has a great 1920×1080 screen, 7th gen chip and a backlit keyboard. It will be my go to device for years to come I hope. It will also retire into Linux nicely later too. Wee! (using it now actually…) All the aforementioned snow obviously means a lot of shoveling. It has caught up to me re-aggravating my forearm strain from years back. Sigh… We watched Ford v. Ferrari Friday night. It was entertaining and well shot. I good film for a Friday night.

Snowshoeing in Cold Creek

Finally got out snowshoeing today. It was incredibly sunny, above zero. Lovely Day. Burned through Season 4 of Van Helsing. It is pretty good fantasy.
