Smashy smash?!

Our reno is officially underway! I know this because we did the demo this weekend and every muscle in my body is in full revolt at the moment. It is a bit of a trip. Our entire main floor is empty. The kitchen has been completely gutted. The cabinets are out, the floor tile is out and the drywall between the kitchen and dining room is also out. The floor is so empty now it echoes. It was a monstrous undertaking. I underestimated the work it would take to remove the kitchen tile. (That said, I wasn’t expecting to have to remove tile over tile which was about 2 inches thick!) We were fortunate to have the help from my awesome and resourceful Brother-in-Law JP (The Machine) who brought a bunch of tools and his vast know-how. I don’t think we would have been able to finish the demo without his help. We also had Steve-o’s help Saturday morning. We needed both of the big strapping lads, there was a lot to move. Fridges, a stove, couches and the evil beast treadmill. A thousand thanks to both guys, it was a very long day. It was remarkable how much dust started flying around once we started removing tile. We had to use face masks or I’m sure we would have gotten sick. There were a lot of smaller jobs as well… Removing the millions of staples from the stairs and floor became my cross to bear. Bending and pulling, repeat ad nauseum. That was our weekend. We worked most of both Saturday and Sunday well into the night. We both feel invested now…My body is scratched, cut and bruised. The contractors start work today. Once noticeable progress is made I’ll be sure to post photos. Now the reno is getting started. The only decision left is to fully commit to our floor tile. Our designer has until the end of today to find an alternative to the tile we picked near the beginning. No more carpets! I’m sure pet owners with carpets can appreciate how exciting this is!

JP ended up staying over Saturday night. We chilled out with a few beer and watched Jack Reacher. It was pretty cool. I liked how it was shot and Tommy was good in his role. ⭐⭐⭐½

Bdot is returning to Carolina tonight for work. She’ll be back late Wednesday… Ugh. At least she avoided the ridiculous 6AM flight…
