The world needs more Okami

Gaming

Beautiful art.

Beautiful art.

I play a lot of video games and make them professionallyโ€ฆIโ€™m pretty critical about games. When I saw games like Mass Effect and Assassinโ€™s Creed lighting up reviews with near perfect score I scoffed at them finding deep flaws with both games. Nothing that innovative or really all that interesting. Yesterday my co-worker Raj brought in Okami for the Wii. Iโ€™ve heard a lot about the game โ€“ that it had a unique and striking art style and that again reviewers loved it but consumers did not. It is a visually stunning game. Admittedly I *like* the art style used with bright bold colours and pseudo-real landscapes. To me it is very group of Seven. Iโ€™m not often taken by eye-candy games but Okami has such a unique and fresh look to it that it stands way out and above most games Iโ€™ve seen. Sadly in spite of all the acclamation the game has received the sales for it have been rather slow. Hopefully word of mouth will boost sales and people will enjoy this wonderfully unique game that proves there truly is ART in video games. And that making games is, and can be, an Art in itself. Check out some Okami art. (link now 404, what a shame - Jan/24)

We have our first house showing tomorrow. My back is killing me. It has been a long week, with a lot of late nights. Hopefully it will have been worth it.
